Somewhere between Birmingham and home, I found myself thinking about Mary in John 12. Her gift was no small offering. But what catches my eye isn’t the preciousness of her offering—it’s the astuteness of the woman who gave it. Jesus had told His disciples in Mark 8, 9, and 10 what was coming: He would die. Twelve disciples sat at that table. But Mary read the room. She understood the moment and responded. I want to read the room like Mary. Two things can help us: 1. Listen to the Word of Jesus. 2.
