Are you parenting or controlling?
Where’s the line between parenting… and controlling?
I don’t have a perfect formula.
But I’ve learned this the hard way:
Control might get quick results but it stunts long term growth.
So in our home, we’ve made a few shifts:
→ From reminding over and over → to expecting responsibility
→ From rescuing → to letting natural consequences teach
→ From commanding → to coaching
Because here’s the truth: Your kids will learn from wisdom… or from experience. And experience is a much harsher teacher.
As Pastor @craiggroeschel says, “You can have control—or you can have growth—but not both.”
We’re choosing growth.
Even when it’s uncomfortable.
Even when it’s slower.
Even when I don’t get it right (and have to apologize).
I’m not here to control my kids.
I’m here to guide them, prepare them, and love them.
And that means sometimes… I step back and let life do the teaching.
If you’re in that tension too you’re not alone.
